Blackhawks/Red Wings a playoff preview?

In what could be a preliminary look at the first round of the Western Conference playoffs, the Chicago Blackhawks take on the Detroit Red Wings for the last time during the regular season this year. In their previous three meetings the Blackhawks have prevailed in all of them.

The previous encounters between these teams have been classic tight defensive tilts that could have swung either way. Their last meeting however, was a complete whitewashing by the Blackhawks when they won 7-1 at the Joe. This will provide sufficient motivation for Detroit to come out flying coupled with the fact that they are still fighting for their playoff lives.

Costly Mistakes Sink 2-Dimensional Red Wings VS Blues

The end of the season is in sight, and the Detroit Red Wings found themselves needing a win on home ice to try and maintain their position in the Western Conference standings against the team that trailed them by only a point: the St. Louis Blues. It was the day of the press conference confirming what everyone already knew--though still enjoyed hearing--about the 2014 Winter Classic. It was a day where the Wings needed to be tough, and resilient, and smart.

Of those three things, we witnessed the first two. The last one cost Detroit dearly.

Detroit Wins An Exciting Game In OT vs Avalanche

If you are a Wings fan, or really a hockey fan, you would know how extremely important it was for Detroit to take home two points on Friday's game against Colorado. Wings Quell Avalanche, Win 3-2

One had to figure coming into this evening's game that the Detroit Red Wings were going to show some spirit, perhaps even two games worth. It would've been the least they could after their embarrassing showing in front of their own fans yesterday. Sure enough, the Wings played with passion and put their 7-1 drubbing from Chicago behind them and pulled out to a 3-0 lead on the Colorado Avalanche, holding on for a 3-2 final.

Blackhawks roll over Red Wings in Easter morning showcase

The anticipation was high for Sunday's Blackhawks-Red Wings game; after all, their last match up had been a thrilling 2-1 Chicago shootout victory to start the month off.

Today's game lacked the same tension, as Chicago roared out to a 3-0 lead in just over four minutes. Detroit barely looked like they were playing on the same sheet of ice for most of the game.

Jeremy Morin, freshly called up from the AHL, scored his first NHL goal of the season on his first shot on his first shift. Brandon Saad scored again less than a minute later.

Detroit's Jakub Kindl intercepted a Dave Bolland pass soon after that, but Jimmy Hayes, crashing the net, create...

Wings Waddle out of West Coast in Boring Loss to Sharks

Last night's game in San Jose was a hard one to watch, and not just because the Red Wings didn't come away with the win. Yes, Detroit lost 2-0 to the Sharks, but the game overall--on both sides of the ice--was chore to watch, and certainly not worth staying up till 1AM ET to behold.

Wings Find Themselves Late, Rally past Coyotes

There was speculation that, after the elation of the 2-game sweep of the Ducks in Anaheim, Detroit may suffer a hangover of sorts as they entered Jobing.com Arena for their matchup against the Phoenix Coyotes. To an extent, the speculators may have been right, but fans were treated to a welcome sight, as Detroit managed to rally from a temporary meltdown and battle back to claim their third straight win, defeating Phoenix 3-2.

Detroit Sweeps The Weekend Vs Anaheim

Detroit Red Wings sweeps the weekend, beating Anaheim both Friday and today. Detroit played a successful weekend on the road, which felt much like a home game. It was refreshing to hear "Let's go Red Wings" all the way in Cali. With the support from the fans as well as some solid goaltending, Detroit is happy to hand Anaheim two regulation losses.
