Red Wings Riding High on a Three Game Winning Streak

Make no mistake, the Red Wings are one of the hottest teams in the NHL right now. They have won 6 of their last 7 games and are on a 3 game winning streak heading into tonight's game. They are getting secondary scoring as well as the always expected contribution from none other than Pavel Datsyuk. Everything seems to be clicking. Their last two games were not against the best teams in the league, but they still presented different challenges. Last night the Wings faced an Oilers team that is just playing for respect. The Oilers are a team that is rebuilding. They aren't going to win the Stanley Cup this season. But you can bet that they get up for games against teams like the Wings. It was p...

The Wings Hand the Flames Another Loss

The slump for the Flames continues, and the Red Wings get their 5th win in the past 6 games. It was easy to look at last night's game on the schedule and expect the Flames to be blown out. Calgary has been struggling terribly to keep the puck out of the net. But this was not a high scoring game. The Flames benefited from a power play to go up 1-0 late in the first period. With 7 total penalties called in the period, it was hard to gain any rhythm. But the Wings took over in the second. Mike Modano scored his second goal as a Red Wing with a beautiful high glove-side shot on Miikka Kiprusoff to tie the game at one. It must have felt great for Modano to end his brief scoring drought th...

A Little Bit About Me and the 2010-11 Red Wings Thus Far

First of all, my name is obviously Alicia and I have been blogging about hockey on various sites for over two years now. Most people that know me would refer to me as a Flyers fan and also as someone that enjoys watching European hockey players, specifically Finns. But what is also true about me is that I have a soft spot for the Detroit Red Wings. It would be an understatement to say that the Red Wings have a rich history in the NHL. The winged wheel is so well recognized in the hockey world and has been for decades, and the Wings always seem to be poised to have regular season and playoff success year after year. The Red Wings' organization is a very proud organization and rightfully so. T...

5 Reasons The Wings Will Win The Cup This Year

1. New Faces, Old Faces

Enter Mike Modano. Re-enter Jiri Hudler. Grouped with Dan Cleary, they should form one of the most potent third line in the league; much needed added depth. It will be interesting to see if Modano has anything left in the tank, but at the very least he is a welcome addition with his experience and leadership alone. Jiri Hudler should also provide the Wings with some much needed secondary scoring and powerplay firepower.

2. Slimmer Is Better

According to reports, Henrik Zetterberg trimmed down in the off-season, back to his old 07-08 shape. Couple that to the fact that Z should be playing on Datsyuk's wing most of the season now that they h...

New Faces and Opportunities in the Motor City

While salary cap restrictions have limited the Red Wings off season moves, this hasn't prevented Ken Holland from signing a few new faces. Larry Craig (AKA nowhere) takes a look at this off season's signings, the opportunities for each, and how they can help Detroit improve on last year's performance. Opportunity. It's a word you hear from Detroit Red Wing's head coach Mike Babcock quite often if you've heard him in interviews and press conferences. He will use it when the situation facing his team is as bright or dim as it could possibly be. Babs will also use it to describe a specific player's roster status in both terms as well. As you look at this season's projected roster, you...
