Five Wings prospects to represent in 2012 WJC

It's always wise to invest in the future, right?

Well the Wings will get a chance to see what their potential investments can do as five of the team's prospects will represent their countries in the 2012 World Junior Championships.

So who are these five young players?

2011 Draft picks: Mattias Backman (Sweden), Tomas Jurco (Slovakia) and Marek Tvrdon (Slovakia)

Backman is a defenseman in the Linkoping junior league and has 9 points in 34 games. Jurco, a YouTube sensation among hockey fans, is a right wing for the Saint John Sea Dogs (QMJHL) and has 21 goals and 24 assists this season. Tvrdon is a forward for the Vancouver Giants (WHL) and has 14 goals and 23 assists on the season.

2010 Draft picks: Petr Mrazek (Czech Republic) and Teemu Pulkkinen (Finland)

Mrazek is a goalie for the Ottawa 67's (OHL) and has recorded 17 wins and 7 losses, with 1 shutout and 3.06 GAA. Pulkinnen is a forward for Jokerit (SM-liiga) and has 13 goals and 16 assists this season.

The tournament begins on December 26 and ends with the gold medal game on January 5, and will be held at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary and Rexall Place in Edmonton.

I've heard good things about Tvrdon, who was hurt the whole year last season and that's why he dropped to the fourth round. Jurco goes without saying, and Pulkkinen was great in last year's tournament. I'm interested to see Mrazek because he's also been doing well. Haven't heard much abut Backman, though, so I guess I'll find out soon enough!

Yeah, I have heard a lot about Jurco being great. Also, a little about Tvrdon being good too. Always exciting info to check out though!

Yeah I love Jurco, but I am not so familiar with the others. I probably won't even be able to watch any games (damn basic cable), but the highlights are always great to catch. I'll be paying close attention to these guys though
