Brewin' the Bruins

The Detroit Red Wings beat the Boston Bruins 4-2 at Joe Louis Arena Sunday afternoon in a matinée game. Todd Bertuzzi scored twice while Kris Draper and Pavel Datsyuk also tallied for Detroit while Tyler Seguin and Brad Marchand replied for Boston.

It was finally a full effort for Detroit as they swept the Bruins in the season series 2-0 (they beat the Bruins 6-1 a few days prior). From the opening face-off though, the Wings started slow and gave up Seguin;'s goal after some hard work by Blake Wheeler. Bertuzzi responded after a gift by Marchand, putting a backhander over Tim Thomas to tie the game.

Marchand redeemed himself on the powerplay to make the score 2-1 after the first period. Detroit opened the second period firing shot after shot, and finally beat Thomas again as Datsyuk put a loose puck into an open net to tie the score.

Draper was then set on a breakaway after Patrick Eaves made a nice saucer pass, and beat Thomas upstairs to take the lead. It only seemed fitting that Bertuzzi, who scored twice against Boston in the 6-1 win, would score again off of a Johan Franzen pass on a two on one break. Jimmy Howard made 23 saves in the win, compared to Thomas' 32 stops.

Detroit's next game will be against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday in Tampa. Seeing these are the two teams I'm covering I will be begging for a live blog!

It was nice to see the Red Wings show up "On Time" and for a full 60 minutes for these games. If only that same effort would have been there against the Blue Jackets & Predators. Hopefully this is the start of a solid stretch run based on improved defensive play.
