Star Depleted Wings and Hawks Do Battle

Tonight's battle between the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks will have both teams without their number one forwards. Pavel Datsyuk is out for two weeks with minor knee surgery and Jonathan Toews is out with an upper body injury.

The Red Wings just made a trade for defenceman Kyle Quincey, who will not be able to make it to Chicago in time to play.

Jimmy Howard will make his first start in goal since suffering a broken finger. Ty Conklin was placed on waivers yesterday. He cleared today and will be assigned to Grand Rapids (AHL).

Joey MacDonald is now officially the Red Wings back up goalie, and will most likely get more reps than Conklin did.

Other than Datsyuk and Toews, the injury report includes Patrick Eaves, Dan Carcillo, Niklas Hjalmarsson, and Steve Montador. Dan Cleary will play his first game after getting his knee drained of fluid.
