Wings Look to Continue Jackets' Streak
The Detroit Red Wings travel to Columbus tonight to take on the Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena. Detroit has started the season at 5-1-0 and the Jackets are at the other end of the spectrum at 0-7-1, their worst start in franchise history.
Detroit will start Ty Conklin for a second straight game, two days after he let in seven goals against the Washington Capitals in a 7-1 loss. Jimmy Howard is not available due to the birth of his first child. Joey MacDonald was recalled from Grand Rapdis (AHL).
Detroit defeated the Jackets 5-2 in their series opener at the Joe Louis Arena a game before flying to Washington. Valterri Filppula leads all scorers with a goal and three assists.
Filppula and Johan Franzen tore apart the Blue Jackets defense in the win, totaling seven points together.
Cory Emmerton will sit for the first time in the season. He has been very good on the fourth line despite scoring only one goal (in the season opener versus Ottawa). He has played regular minutes on the penalty kill with Darren Helm, Justin Abdelkader and Drew Miller. All three lines will stay the same, except the rotating fourth line (Miller-Eaves-Brunnstrom).
Mike Commodore is close to returning from an MCL sprain, but is likely to be out until the weekend. Even then, he might not see time because of the play of Jakub Kindl.
The Jackets get a boost tonight when they get back defenceman James Wisniewski from an eight game suspension. It will be his first regular season game with Columbus. Both defenceman injured in the previous Wings game (Marc Methot and Radek Martinek) are both out.
