Wings Top Avs

The Red Wings beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-0 last night in their second gae of the season and their first road game. A day after beating Ottawa 5-3, Detroit got subperb goaltending from backup Ty COnklin, who stopped every Colorado shot to earn the shutout.

Johan Franzen, Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk scored for Detroit.

Franzen let a slap shot go from the left side that beat Avs goalie Semyon Varlamov for a 1-0 lead. Zetterberg played give and go with Datsyuk on his one timer goal, and Datsyuk sealed the win with an empty netter with just over two munutes to play.

Ian White was very impressive in his second game as a Wing (he had a goal and an assist in the win over Ottawa). He played more than Nicklas Lidstrom and played a physical game as well.

The Wings did not play Fabian Brunnstrom in their first two games. Mike Babcock has expected him to compete for a job in the lineup. With Cory Emmerton playing well, Brunnstrom will need an opportunity to prove what he can do. I expect him to be playing in Detroit's next tilt.
