Can Wings Break Losing Streak Against Columbus?
The Wings have a road game that they will play tonight at 7PM against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Can the Wings stop their losing streak tonight? Well, let's consider the different factors.
The Blue Jackets are by far the worst team in the National Hockey League. They have won a whopping 18 games out of their 62 games played. This season, the Wings hold a 2-1-0 lead over the Blue Jackets yet so far. However, the only loss the Wings have this season against them is at the Blue Jackets' home ice in which Detroit lost 4 to 1 in October. It is understandable to worry if the Wings are going to fall short, especially with their road game slumps.
The Wings will not have Pavel Datsyuk with them tonight due to his recent knee surgery. The Wings look more than lost without their star Datsyuk, they look close to incompetent. Worse, Nick Lidstrӧm and Kyle Quincey also will not be in the game on tonight. Both defensemen were not skating during practice yesterday and general manager Ken Holland said both are day-to-day, but will be out for the game. Ericsson is also out due to a fractured wrist. Seems like the Wings will need plenty of help on defense. Recalled from the Griffins is both Brendan Smith and Doug Janik. Out for Columbus is both forwards Jared Boll and Kristian Huselius due to injuries. Marc Methot, Radek Martinek, and Red Wings Patrick Eaves are out indefinitely.
As always, the Wings should most be concerned about Columbus player Rick Nash. The Wings also need to step it up from Saturday’s game against Colorado. They are currently the third best team in the league; it seems fair to say that they have more than a feasible chance if they work for it. To help out the Wings, Filppula has played exceptionally well with being expected to step his game up after the departure of fellow teammate Datsyuk. There is no bad team in the NHL, so it is important to always be working for the win.
Tonight will be their fourth of six meetings in this 2011-2012 season. Do you think the Wings have a chance to stop the downward spril and beat the Blue Jackets? What will they have to do to come out on top tonight?
