Game Day: Wings Battle League-Leading Hawks

The Detroit Red Wings (23-12-1) fly into Chicago this evening to take on the Chicago Blackhawks (23-10-4) who currently sit atop the NHL standings.

The Hawks have been great all year, and have dominated on home ice, with a record of (13-3-3). The Wings haven't been superb on the road, and have a record away from the friendly confines of the Joe of (9-10-0). This is the first of six meetings of the year for these 2 Central Division rivals, who always seem to give the fans an entertaining battle.

Look for Jimmy Howard to start between the pipes for the Wings. Howard is having an excellent year, sporting a record of (22-8-1). And look for his counterpart tonight to be Corey Crawford, who has a record of (14-8-2). Crawford has a relatively high GAA of 2.80, so hopefully the Wings can fire a lot of shots and get pucks past him. I expect a relatively high scoring game, as both teams move the puck well and know how to finish. Detroit is averaging 3.3 Goals per Game, and the Hawks are averaging 3.2.

Joakim Andersson, who was recently recalled from Grand Rapids of the AHL, is in the line-up again tonight, after playing 5:10 in his NHL debut Tuesday against the Blues.

Puck drop is 8:30 EST (5:30 PST) at the United Centre

I'm very excited to see how this game goes down. Chicago has been playing really well this season and the Wings, as we know, have been inconsistently good. If the Wings can keep control of the puck, try really hard the ENTIRE game, and shoot/score- I think we will be set. Go Wings!

oh me too. key word "ENTIRE" game. we all know that has been a problem recently, especially on the road.

Good effort by the Wings tonight, though.
