Wings Complete The Comeback To Defeat The Hawks
The Detroit Red Wings fought back from an early 2-0 deficit to defeat the Chicago Blackhawks in overtime by a score of 3-2.
David Bolland began the scoring just 3:35 into the first, and just 44 seconds later Patrick Sharp netted his 20th of the season, beating Ty Conklin who got a rare start. The Wings stepped it up from there, and a goal by Valtteri Filppula made it 2-1 Hawks after 20 minutes.
The second period went scoreless, with both Hawks netminder Crawford and Conklin making some key saves, giving their respective teams a chance to win.
The third was the same way, going back and forth, until a lose puck in front of the Hawks net was banged home by Danny Cleary to tie the game at 2, with just 4:45 remaining. A late Hawks chance was denied by Conklin, sending this game to overtime. Overtime was electric, with both teams going back and forth. That is, until arguably the most talented player in the league, Pavel Datsyuk, buried the OT winner from a ridiculous angle. Only the replay can truly show how amazing it was. The comeback was completed. Wings win!
As I mentioned, Ty Conklin got the call between the pipes. After allowing two early ones, he shut the door. After being rather inconsistent when he's in, he stepped it up. His performance seemed to spark the men in front of him, contributing to the amazinng come from behind victory.
With the win, the Wings are currently in a three-way tie for first in the Central Division. They have the first spot by virtue of more wins.
I just want to say, that this game was amazing. It proved why I love this team so much. The heart and perseverance by the men to come back from an early 2-0 deficit on the road was amazing.
The Wings next game is Tuesday when they travel to Long Island to take on the Islanders.
