Wings Continue Rolling, Franzen, Filppula Still Hot
The Detroit Red Wings won their seventh consecutive game tonight as they defeated the battered and bruised Buffalo Sabres. This is also the fourth straight win away from the Joe for the men who wear the winged wheel.
The Wings got off to a great start in the first, and had the Sabres on their heels early. Jakub Kindl netted his first of the year, as the defenceman get in on the scoring yet again. Johan Franzen continues his fantastic year, when he put one high blocker side past Enroth on the powerplay after a nice feed from Lidstrom. Just over a minute after the Franzen tally, Valtteri Filppula continued his hot streak with his 8th goal of the season.
Jimmy Howard continues his impressive year, allowing just the one goal on 28 shots. His current 1.87 Goals Against Average ranks third in the league.
Chris Conner looked great tonight in his Wings debut, playing just under 14 minutes. The speedy forward fit in quite nicely on a line with Darren Helm, and registered a respectable 4 shots on the Buffalo netminder. With Eaves out 6-8 weeks, look for Conner to get a good chance to play with the big club and contribute.
Hidden in the win streak sits Jiri Hudler, who continues his sub-par year. With just two goals in 23 games played, he needs to pick it up. He isn't half the player he was before he left for Russia after the 08-09 season. I'd love to see him step it up, and get back to the reliable point-producer we all know he is capable of.
The Red Wings look to make it 8 in a row on Sunday, as they take to the ice at the Pepsi Centre for an always entertaining tilt with the rival Avalanche.
