Wings Hand Oilers 4th Consecutive Loss
The Detroit Red Wings kicked off their western road trip with a 3-2 victory against the young, skillful Edmonton Oilers. This is the Wings second straight win, and 5th out of their last 6.
Daniel Cleary, Jiri Hudler, and Drew Miller all scored for the Red and White tonight. It's good to see the Wings getting secondary scoring. Ryan Jones and Jordan Eberle scored for the oilers in the losing cause.
Cleary scored 4:33 into the first, after redirecting Jakub Kindl's point shot. Jones and Hudler alternated goals in the second, before Eberle tied it up on the powerplay with just 0.5 seconds remaining. The third was mostly back and forth, with both teams exchanging scoring opportunities before Drew Miller tipped the Lidstrom shot from the blueline past Oiler netminder Nikolai Khabibulin with just 4:15 remaining. The Wings would kill off a Kronwall delay of game penalty in the last couple minutes to preserve the road victory.
Jimmy Howard had yet another solid performance between the pipes (notice a trend here?) stopping 21 of 23 shots directed his way.
The Wings next game is Wednesday night in Vancouver. Always an entertaining match-up when these two teams get together. Look for Howard and Luongo to get the start in net.
